Russell Scott Primary News

Summer seems to be here at last and we hope it continues through the holidays so that the children can enjoy being outside. We’ve had another fun half term and the next half term is looking very busy and exciting!

Russell Scott Website

Mr. Harkins and the staff have been working hard to add items to our website. We would welcome any suggestions you have for improvement. Please remember that the half-termly newsletter can be found on the website just in case you misplace your copy.

Speaking and Listening Week
This week we have held our Speaking and Listening Week. All the children have spoken in front of their class and their classmates have listened. Some of them have been very amusing and obviously very well prepared – well done everybody!

SATS
All the children from Year 2 upwards have done tests recently, and Year 2 and Year 6 children have sat their SATS tests during this half term. They worked so hard and gave their best and we were very proud of their efforts.

Summer Fair
We will be asking for various things so if you are sorting out or shopping during the holidays, please try and find the following: Teddies in a good condition, bottles for the bottle tombola, chocolate for the chocolate tombola, fancy goods for the tombola and cakes for the cake stall. We will begin collecting after the holidays so look out for the fliers.

Speakeasy
Speakeasy began on Wednesday 28th April 2010 and will run for ten weeks. The feedback from the parents attending the course has been excellent and we hope to offer more learning opportunities for parents in the future.

SEALS
The SEALS (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) theme for next half term is ‘Changes’. The children will be thinking about changes that take place in our lives and how we can deal with different changes.

Healthy Schools
We are planning to hold our annual ‘Healthy School’s Week’ during the week of 21 st June. This will coincide with ‘National School Sports Week’ across the country and this year will have a Physical Activity focus which is one of the four strands of the Healthy Schools criteria. The ‘Walk to School’ t-shirts ordered will be delivered before then so don’t worry if you haven’t been given yours yet.

M.E.N.D.
The M.E.N.D. (mind Exercise Nutrition Do It!) course began last week and the children taking part are thoroughly enjoying themselves and learning lots about healthy lifestyles.

Safety in the Sun
When the weather is warm, we would really like to see the children wearing hats and sun cream. Members of staff are not allowed to rub sun cream in but we can remind children to use it at playtimes. We have very little shade and it can be dangerous for the children not to be protected for more than a few minutes.

Sporting Events
A huge well done to Jack Keeley for making it through the heats of ‘Skill Stars’ to be selected by the Tameside Talent Team to train for a year. We hope he does very well.

Well done to the children from Years 5 and 6 for taking part and showing good sportsmanship at the Rounders Festival.

Next half term all Year 1 and 2 children will be taking part in the Virtual Sports Festival at Egerton Park.

PTFRS
Next Meeting
The meeting to be held on Wednesday 16 th June, at 6pm, will be to discuss the World Cup Event for the children in Years 2 to 6 on 23 rd June – a slip will be sent out about this just after half term.

We will also be organising this year’s Summer Fair which is on Friday 2 nd July from 4:30-6:30pm. If you have any ideas for this event or feel able to offer your time to set up and run a stall, we would love to see you there. If you can’t come to the meeting but would like to run a stall, please speak to Mrs. Lees as soon as possible. Also, if anybody has contacts who are able to offer raffle prizes for the fair we would really like to hear from you.

School Disco
The children enjoyed the chance to dance with their friends at the Summer term disco. We would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who helped at the disco – we couldn’t do it without you!

A full update of funds raised by the PTFRS and what some of the money has been spent on will be sent home with the summer newsletter.

We would like to wish you all a happy and, hopefully, sunny half-term and look forward to seeing you all back on Monday 14 th June.

We would like to wish you all a happy and, hopefully, sunny Easter and look forward to seeing
